Curatorial RemarksThe Brandywine River Museum of Art holds an unillustrated earlier edition of this book that the artist read and annotated in preparation for the commission (NCWS.95.183).
As a three-year old, the first owner was posing for Henriette Wyeth when NCW presented him with this painting. Wyeth knew the boy's father, Ralph Graves, a founding editor of National Geographic Magazine.
