Curatorial Remarks"Your letters received yesterday were thrilling...I dare say that a more or less permanent record is already made in consequence--a picture of the boy Christ and Enoch the Essene. It promises to surpass my best--and I am happy" (NCW to "Dear Folks," Sept. 12, 1913, Wyeth Family Archives). Later the artist wrote, "Harper's were delighted with my interpretation of Christ...", NCW to Henriette Zirngiebel Wyeth, dated in another hand Oct. 3, 1913, WFA.
The painting was photographed in 1969, one of approximately 3 dozen paintings from the artist's studio that had been stored unstretched (Brandywine River Museum, catalogue raisonné files).
