Curatorial RemarksIn preparation for this commission, the artist read and marked an edition published by A. L. Burt (Brandywine River Museum, NCWS.95.4334).
In 1928, Peter Hurd illustrated an edition of Last of the Mohicans for David McKay. One of the four illustrations depicts a different scene, but is reminiscent of this painting.
