Curatorial RemarksIn 1942, the artist granted to the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention "second rights for unrestricted use" for this image, for which he was paid $50.00 (Herman F. Burns, Broadman Press of the Sunday School Board, to NCW Oct. 5, 1942, Wyeth Family Archives).
This painting appears in the Sept. 1950 inventory of Wyeth's studio by Richard Layton (Wyeth Family Archives), however, it was consigned to Vose Galleries, Boston, in 1957 by Alexander Winsor, one of the heirs of Robert Winsor. It seems likely that it was returned to the Winsor heirs in error, Wyeth family members perhaps assuming it had been part of the Parable series commissioned by Robert Winsor.
