Curatorial RemarksIn preparation for this commission, the artist read and marked an edition published by A. L. Burt (Brandywine River Museum, NCWS.95.4334).
A label now attached to the stretcher of the painting indicates that Scribner's sent this painting to the Book Department of Jordan Marsh, a prominent Boston department store, probably as part of an advertising campaign.
