Curatorial RemarksThis illustration did not appear in the first printing of the book marked 838.10. According to a letter dated Sept. 5, 1938 (NCW to HWH, Wyeth Family Archives), two illustrations were not finished by the deadline and only appeared in subsequent printings, such as those marked 840.2.
The Andrew and Betsy Wyeth collection includes a composition drawing for this image (NCW 1437) and the Brandywine River Museum holds a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.88) of the drawing which was used in the transfer of the design from paper to panel.
