Curatorial RemarksThis drawing was probably done while Wyeth attended the Eric Pape School in Boston during fall 1900 and spring 1901. Pape's school brochure for 1901/1902 included photographs of the student exhibition held in June, 1901. Photograph #3 include drawings that look like they were done in the same modeling session.
The drawing was one of 16 sold by Nicholas Wyeth in July 1972 to Aldis Brown of New York. Of the 16 drawings, 7 were typical academic figure studies, and may have been done in the same class. See NCW 1475, 1529, 1532, 1561, 1563, and 1567. Other extant drawings bear the same watermarks and may be contemporary.
