Curatorial RemarksThe drawing was one of eleven sold as one lot at Christie's in 1982. The lot was accompanied by this comment in the catalogue: "In a letter dated July 13, 1977, Frank Fowler, Andrew Wyeth's representative, explains that these drawings were part of a bound scrap-book put together by Andrew Wyeth for his mother."
A similar bag appears in a composition drawing (NCW 2050) held by the Brandywine River Museum (96.1.501). According to correspondence from American Artists Company, Wyeth needed to adjust the style of the bag, and this drawing may be related to those changes.
