Curatorial RemarksThis work is very similar to a drawing in the collection of the Brandywine River Museum (NCW 1541, 96.1.80), done while the artist studied in Annisquam (Gloucester), Massachusetts, during the summer of 1901. Other pen and ink drawings that probably date to the same time are NCW 2625 (96.1.180), and from the collection of Andrew and Betsy Wyeth, NCW 2246.224, NCW 2246.226, NCW 2246.228 and NCW 2246.230.
James P. and Alma Simpson, owners of the drawing, assembled one of the earliest (unpublished) catalogues of N. C. Wyeth's work.
