Curatorial RemarksThe Brandywine River Museum holds the lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.182) used in the transfer of the design from paper to canvas (NCW 2366). The museum collection also includes a charcoal drawing (NCW 2080, 96.1.517) of an alternative composition, and two formal photographs of the sitter (NCWS.95.1047.1 and .1047.2) that were most likely consulted as references.
Clayton Douglass Buck (1890-1965) was governor of Delaware from 1929-1937.
