Curatorial RemarksThe artist arranged this still life in a corner of the studio to the right of the door which leads into the mural studio. That doorway was always covered by long curtains, which appear in the painting along the left side. The darkish area on the wall depicts a patch in the plaster that is still visible, evidence of an earlier window. The banded pitcher was found in Carolyn Wyeth's studio in 2009 (NCWS.95.6623)
The painting the artist depicted in the upper right corner of this still life is a posthumous portrait of his mother ("My Mother," NCW 131), painted in 1929. The painting retains its original frame, the work of Wilmington carver Frank Coll (1884 - 1969) who made many frames for N. C. Wyeth.
