Curatorial RemarksAn annotated card in the Scribner's Archives (#28809, Brandywine River Museum library), indicates that this painting was the property of Scribner's and was for sale at the price of $150. Author Mary Synon was particularly pleased with the illustrations for this story, citing Wyeth's "sympathetic understanding of the North Country people" (Mary Synon to NCW, Jan. 24, 1912, Wyeth Family Archives).
