Curatorial RemarksThis drawing is referred to as a "black and white comprehensive" in correspondence between Wyeth and his agent American Artist Company (Wyeth Family Archives). The commission for Minnesota Valley Canning Company was handled through the Leo Burnett Company of Chicago; the completed painting is NCW 243.

The Brandywine River Museum holds a lantern slide of this composition drawing (NCWS.95.1825.193), and a lantern slide of a tracing of an alternative composition (NCWS.95.1825.194) with the inscription below:TRACED BY R (H or M) & (one illegible word). This tracing is referred to in a letter dated Feb. 19, 1942, that Wyeth received from American Artists Company (Wyeth Family Archives); it apparently had correction notations in the margin.
