Curatorial RemarksThis drawing appears on a 1976 list of drawings sold from the artist's studio as " Drawg for cover design of Anthony Adverse, water stains at top, 47 3/8 x 42 3/8" . The artist transferred the design from paper to panel (NCW 539) using a lantern slide of the drawing (Brandywine River Museum, NCWS.95.1825.120). NCW 2189 is a study for the female figure in this composition.
In a letter to Ann Wyeth McCoy dated Oct. 10, 1966 (Ann Wyeth McCoy Collection, Annenberg Research Center, Brandywine River Museum of Art), Andrew Wyeth recollected that he and his sister posed for this picture.
