Curatorial RemarksThe calendar reproduction shows that the original design included the zodiac signs for Scorpius, Sagittarius, and Capricornus at the bottom of the picture.
The composition of this painting is almost identical to the composition of a drawing Wyeth did in March 1903 (NCW 340). At that time, a group of Pyle students were meeting informally to produce pen and ink sketches on a given topic. Titled "Ye Conquerer" (sic), Wyeth's drawing must have served as a study for the painting.
