Curatorial RemarksThis drawing is representative of the type of work the artist did as a student before joining the Howard Pyle School. It could have been done during Wyeth's spring semester at Massachusetts Normal Art School (1900) for class described as "Model, charcoal," or done at the Eric Pape School during fall 1900. NCW 1563 and NCW 1567 may have been done in the same class.
The drawing was one of 16 sold by Nicholas Wyeth in July 1972 to Aldis Brown of New York. Of the 16 drawings, 7 were typical academic figure studies, and may have been done in the same class. See NCW 1475, 1528, 1529, 1532, 1563, and 1567.
