Curatorial RemarksThis illustration has qualities of a drawing and according to Scribner's records (Brandywine River Museum library, Scribner's archives, # 30684) it was classified under "Style" as "charcoal." It may have been created with charcoal and water or oil-based wash on a canvas or paper support. Wyeth's correspondence does not clarify the issue. Scribner's sold the drawing for $20.00 to Frank B. Hoffman (1888-1958), an illustrator and western genre artist.
