Curatorial RemarksIn a handwritten list of drawings from the artist's studio that were consigned to Frank E. Fowler in 1976, no. 7 is "study for Eric the Red Discovers America - 850 AD" (Brandywine River Museum, curatorial files). Fowler has confirmed that this is the drawing referenced. The dimensions were given as 35 x 44 inches and the drawing was noted as signed in the lower right. The present image is from a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.257, Brandywine River Museum) found in the artist's studio. The image is a study for NCW 2095; the commission for which the image was made is unknown.
