Curatorial RemarksThe painting was photographed in 1969, one of approximately 3 dozen paintings from the artist's studio that had been stored unstretched (Brandywine River Museum, catalogue raisonné files). The small bowl (BRM, NCWS.95.6634, or one similar to it) was found in Carolyn Wyeth's studio in 2009.;In August 2016, this painting was examined by Joyce Stoner, Paintings Conservator in the Winterthur/UD Program in Art Conservation. Stoner was surprised to see that the support was a "gauze-like, open weave canvas, with no priming," on which the artist used a "very drained, intentionally depleted oil paint." According to Stoner, this use of materials is unique in Wyeth's oeuvre.
