Curatorial RemarksThe title of this image was printed below the picture on posters from the first advertising campaign. The guns are probably Winchester Model 12s (David A. Kennedy, Cody Firearms Museum, Buffalo Bill Historical Center to CBP, Dec. 13, 2004).
The model may be John Andress, a local farmer who possibly posed for two other, similar sporting pictures, NCW 2354 and NCW 2109. See file NCW 2354 for more information.
In the September 1915 issue of a sporting magazine titled "Outer's Book," the image appeared in a slightly altered form. The dog in the background is behind rather than ahead of the dog in the foreground, and the hunter is not holding leashes in his left hand. David A. Kennedy, the Robert W. Woodruff Curator of the Cody Firearms Museum, suggested that such differences were often the result of changes made by the lithographer.
