Curatorial RemarksUnderneath this still life is NCW 2314, an untitled headpiece illustration reproduced on page 35 of The Pike County Ballads (Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1912). Wyeth must have considered the opportunity to practice his still life technique more valuable than the potential monetary return on a small black and white oil painting that illustrated a book with disappointing sales.
