Curatorial RemarksThe artist must have encountered some problems with this painting for on Sept. 13, 1933, he wrote Nathaniel and Carolyn Wyeth, "The 'Cleaning Fish' canvas is completely saved now and rates with the best I've done here" (Wyeth Family Archives). The scene is set in Port Clyde and the distinctive Marshall Point Light House can be seen in the background on the right.
