Curatorial RemarksThis painting is directly related to NCW 396, a calendar image advertising gun powders published in 1910. The two together show that the artist was not adverse to cutting corners where commercial work was concerned. Over twenty years later, Wyeth again adapted the image, for "The Three Hunters," (NCW 1154), a 1933 calendar image for Hercules.;According to Frank Fowler, the hunter on the left in picture is the father of his friend Colin Curtis. The father was an Englishman who wrote of outdoor sporting magazines. Research shows that Captain Paul Curtis was the gun editor of Field and Stream Magazine; FF does not recall his friend's father's name.
