Curatorial RemarksThis painting is the only one in the "World of Music" series to be executed in a horizontal format, and it is likely that it was originally conceived to be an endsheet design. Letters the artist wrote in June 1937 refer to the "Discovery book lining" or "the Ginn lining" (Wyeth Family Archives). All three volumes in the series were published with undecorated endsheets. The Brandywine River Museum holds a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.82) of the composition drawing that was used in the transfer of the design from paper to panel.
