Curatorial RemarksThe original height of this painting (perhaps 40 inches) accommodated a banner used as a title block for the Life Magazine cover. It is not clear who altered the painting, but a February, 1928 reproduction shows that the banner had been painted out and the canvas cut by that time (Brandywine River Museum library collection).
