Curatorial RemarksThe Brandywine River Museum holds a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.206) of the composition drawing for this commission; the drawing is signed N.C.W. in the lower right and includes a vignette of an airplane that appeared in the upper left of the advertisement. The Museum also holds a lantern slide (NCWS.95.1825.207) of a proof sheet with the Goodyear logo in the lower right and the area marked for text . This image was commissioned through the Kudner Advertising Agency of New York and appeared only in Life Magazine as a double page spread (Jerome Kempler, Kudner Agency, to James P. Simpson, Feb. 18, 1947, Brandywine River Museum library).
The advertisement is accompanied by text that indicates the picture depicts Sir Martin Frobisher's 1576 expedition in search of a northwest passage.
