Curatorial RemarksThe circa date was suggested by Andrew Wyeth during conservation treatment in 1999 (courtesy Joyce Hill Stoner); he felt that this work was representative of a group of still lifes his father did in the early 1920s. The inscription on the reverse of the canvas pertains to the under image (see NCW 2353). Usually the publication date of the under image provides a date before which the still life could not have been done, but in this case a publication citation for the under image has not been located. The cream pitcher, now without its handle, is still in Wyeth's studio collection (Brandywine River Museum, NCWS.95.1477).
