Curatorial RemarksThe first known mention of this painting occurs in the Wilmington Evening Journal (see above): "The second poster, the subject of which will be Daniel Boone, will follow [the first] in about a month." In its press release of July 30, 1930, the Pennsylvania Railroad published a lengthy statement by the artist describing the painting.
The Brandywine River Museum holds several copies of the Pennsylvania Railroad poster: #4350 (image size 30 5/8 x 25), an unnumbered linen-backed example (image size 30 3/8 x 24 7/8 inches), and three copies mounted on heavy cardboard originally from the artist's studio (NCWS.95.6582, NCWS.95.6585, NCWS.95.6606). In addition, the BRM holds a Forbes reproduction for the calendar, #4430.2 (image size 16 1/2 x 13 5/8 in.).
