Curatorial RemarksAs a model for Richard Hannay, the artist was given by an editor at Houghton Mifflin a photograph of Percival Christopher Wren, the author of Beau Geste (U. S. publication in 1925) who was, in the editor's words, a "good deal a Hannay type" (Lovell Thompson to NCW, 5/16/1939, bMS Am 1925 (1962), by permission of the Houghton Library, Harvard University).
