Curatorial RemarksThis is a juvenile work that relates to at least one other drawing in pen and ink, NCW 2367, which depicts the same figures in a landscape setting.
According to Douglas Allen, Jr., the present drawing, along with other pieces, was found in the attic of the Wyeth home in Needham in the late 1960s. The group was consigned to a rare book dealer in Sheffield, Massachusetts, and then purchased by Douglas Allen, Jr., who sold them individually over time. A negative of this drawing was found in the photo files of the Brandywine River Museum, labeled "early student drawings, N. C. Wyeth."
