Curatorial RemarksResearch for the Chadds Ford 1982 exhibition, which included consultation with Andrew Wyeth, resulted in the ca. 1925 date. Mary Edith Hinshaw, a visitor to Wyeth's studio during the summer of 1934 recorded in her diary this description of the painting, "a still-life with eggplant and peppers - a jug and a glass jar. He said he tried to show the resiliency of the pepper, and the "thump" of the eggplant." Both the jug (NCWS.95.2087) and the glass carafe (NCWS.95.1544) remain in the artist's studio (Brandywine River Museum).
