Curatorial RemarksBelow the image of the galleon, Wyeth painted a title banner and the zodiac signs for Leo, Virgo, and Libra. Harry B. Beck had that portion of the canvas, including in the lower right the "W" with two dots below the points, cut off soon after acquiring the painting (Theodore H. Beck to C. B. Podmaniczky, Feb. 11, 1991, Brandywine River Museum catalogue raisonne files). The composition and coloration are very close to a ca. 1923 study for the First National Bank of Boston commission (NCW 1699).
