Curatorial RemarksAccording to Douglas Allen, Jr., this is one of a group of about eight to ten items found in the attic of the Wyeth homestead in Needham in the late 1960s. The group included work in oil, watercolor, charcoal and pencil, and all dated to the late 1890s. (Other items in the group include NCW 2106, NCW 2107 and probably NCW 1259 and NCW 308.) They were sold by a Sheffield, Massachusetts, rare book dealer to Douglas Allen, Jr.
The house depicted in the drawing has not been identified. Wyeth's grandfather's house in Needham had a central chimney; so did the "Onion" house across the Charles River from the Wyeth's property.
