Curatorial RemarksLetters between the artist and executives at Houghton Mifflin dating from Jan. 8 through May 17, 1930, document this commission (Houghton Mifflin Archives, Houghton LIbrary, Harvard University). The artist was concerned that the engraver would be able to retain the color strength of his original work.
