Curatorial RemarksThis is a student work, possibly done at Massachusetts Normal Art School during the spring 1900 semester for a class described as "Model, charcoal"; or done at the Eric Pape School during the fall 1900 term.
The catalogue raisonne file for this drawing contains a polaroid photograph of the drawing, attached to a 1982 letter and annotated on the reverse in an unidentifed hand "Captain Onion." Captain Onion was a Civil War veteran whose family lived across the Charles River from the Wyeths in Needham.
The drawing is one of a group of 16 early works sold by Nicholas Wyeth in 1972.
