Curatorial RemarksThis drawing was probably done while Wyeth attended the Eric Pape School in Boston during fall 1900 and spring 1901. Pape's school brochure for 1901/1902 included photographs of the student exhibition held in June, 1901. The photographs include drawings that look like they were done in the same modeling session.
The drawing was one of 16 sold by Nicholas Wyeth in July 1972 to Aldis Brown of New York. Six of those drawings were of costumed models and may have been done in the same class (see NCW 1523, 1524, 1530, 1560, and 1565).
