Curatorial RemarksDr. Clarence Poe of Progressive Farmer Magazine was an exacting client. In an earlier drawing for the composition (NCW 1569), the horses' heads were obscurred by the shoulder of the figure in the foreground. In the present work and in the final painting (NCW 815), the horses' heads are visible beyond the farmer.
