Curatorial RemarksThe artwork on the page also included two small vignettes of mallard ducks. It is not clear if the ducks are Wyeth's work, but a printer's proof sent to the artist included the duck images (proof, Brandywine River Museum library).
Perhaps in an attempt to sell this painting Wyeth sent it to the WSFA exhibition of mural paintings in Nov. 1928, as number 100, "Overmantel, Chinese Legend." (The association of number 100 with this image is based on the horizontal orientation of the image and the "Chinese legend" subject matter.)
Among clippings and photos from the NCW studio is a close-up photo of lotus, stamped "J. Horace McFarlane Co., #12392" (Brandywine River Museum Research Center, Image Resources/Size 1/Botanical, NCWS.95.993).
