Curatorial RemarksThis painting, most likely unfinished, relates to a charcoal drawing (NCW 1105) depicting Rodney and Lida Davis on the porch of their Port Clyde home. According to a family member, the house/porch in this painting is the Davis home in Port Clyde. Davis was a lobster fisherman and knew both N. C. and Andrew Wyeth.
The painting was photographed in 1969, one of approximately 3 dozen paintings from the artist's studio that had been stored unstretched (Brandywine River Museum, catalogue raisonné files).
