Curatorial RemarksThis sketch shows the original conception of this subject, for a mural that was approximately 42 feet long, including incidental passages that have not survived. In 1984/85, when the decoration was removed from its original location, this expanse was made into two paintings, The Thanksgiving Feast and Thanksgiving with the Indians. The Brandywine River Museum holds two related lantern slides (NCWS.95.1825.314 and NCWS.95.1825.379) which show the design before the addition of color.
Arthur O. Angilly, to whom the artist gave this sketch, was one of the principal architects of the Metropolitan Life Building at 1 Madison Avenue.
